Indian Government Cuts Subsidized LPG Cylinders to Four Per Year Under PMUY
The Indian government has announced new rules for gas cylinder connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) program. The ministry of petroleum and natural gas reduced the subsidized LPG cylinders from 9 to 4 per year, with beneficiaries receiving Rs 300 per cylinder on the first four refills each year.
The new rules come after the government made it mandatory for LPG Aadhaar-based Biometric Authentication for all PMUY customers. The ministry clarified that the requirement of eKYC applies only to those LPG consumers who have not done eKYC so far, and that PMUY customers need to do it only once every financial year.
To apply for a new connection under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, one must be a woman who has attained 18 years of age, and the adult woman must belong to a poor household based on submission of a deprivation declaration. The applicant must also have no other LPG connection from any Oil Marketing Company (OMC) within the same household.
