Indian Markets Open Lower Amid Rising Crude Prices and Geopolitical Tensions
The Indian stock market started on a negative note on Monday as weak Asian markets and rising crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment.
The Sensex opened 133.78 points, or 0.17 per cent, lower at 77,130.73, while the Nifty declined 58.10 points, or 0.24 per cent, to 24,117.55.
The decline was seen across most sectors, with metal and IT stocks leading the fall. The Nifty Metal index fell by 1.70 per cent, while Nifty IT declined by 1.32 per cent.
Renewed tensions in the Middle East pushed international oil prices higher, with Brent crude climbing more than 2 per cent to $90.67 a barrel and WTI crude advancing 2.06 per cent to $85.09.
