Indian Markets Plunge Amid Crude Price Surge and Geopolitical Tensions
The Indian equity markets opened in red on Monday due to surging crude oil prices and geopolitical uncertainties. The BSE Sensex tanked 730 points to 73,170.12 in early trade, while the NSE Nifty dropped 231.50 points to 22,908.95.
All 30 Sensex firms were trading lower, with major laggards including Bajaj Finance, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, and Larsen & Toubro. Brent crude traded 2.27% higher at $106.7 per barrel.
Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, attributed the market's caution to renewed geopolitical uncertainty and a rebound in crude oil prices. He noted that the rejection by US President Donald Trump of Iran's proposal to resolve the conflict has revived concerns over prolonged supply disruptions.
