Indian Railways Launches First LNG-Powered Train in Gujarat
Indian Railways has launched its first LNG-powered train in Sabarmati, Gujarat. This is the second alternative-fuel train to be introduced by the railways after launching the country's first hydrogen train on July 17, 2026.
The new train uses a dual-fuel system, allowing it to run on both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and diesel. The system has been designed to reduce fuel costs and emissions while encouraging the use of alternative fuels in railway operations.
According to trial-based estimates, one Driving Power Car (DPC) could save around Rs 11.9 lakh per year, while an 8-coach rake could save around Rs 23.9 lakh per year.
