Indian Stock Market Dips Amid Rising Crude Oil Prices
The Indian stock market took a hit on Wednesday, August 12, as rising crude oil prices weighed heavily on investor sentiment. The benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty dipped in early trade, with the Sensex losing 35.99 points to 78,097.31 and the Nifty skidding 31.15 points to 24,444.55.
The broader market also saw a decline, with the BSE benchmark falling 211.37 points to 77,953.66 and the Nifty trading 65.10 points down at 24,411.15.
Bharti Airtel, Mahindra & Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, Adani Ports, Titan, and Bajaj Finance were among the major laggards in the Sensex pack, while State Bank of India, Tech Mahindra, Axis Bank, and Asian Paints emerged as winners.
The rise in Brent crude prices to USD 90.01 per barrel has been cited as a key factor behind the market's decline. Analysts point out that this trend is likely to continue due to ongoing tensions between the US and Iran, which are affecting global oil supplies.
