Indian Stock Market Surges Ahead of RBI Policy Decision
The BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 indices in India have experienced a strong rally over the past two sessions, with the Sensex gaining over 1,000 points and the Nifty 50 adding more than 300 points. This upward trend comes ahead of the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting outcome, which is scheduled to be announced on October 7, 2026.
Experts suggest that the market is anticipating the RBI to keep interest rates unchanged, given the lack of significant inflation pressure in India compared to the United States. Additionally, the decline in Brent crude oil prices below $100 per barrel, due to easing supply chain disruptions in the Middle East, has contributed to the positive sentiment. Short covering by Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) has also played a role in the market's recent surge.
Anuj Gupta, a SEBI-registered market expert, believes that the slide in crude oil prices may continue, supported by easing tensions in the Middle East and increased supply from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries. Sandeep Pandey of Basav Capital noted that FPIs, who had taken short positions during the previous market downturn, are now covering those positions as the market has entered an oversold zone.
The correction in the US 10-year bond yield by over 0.50% on Tuesday has further bolstered the market's confidence. However, investors are advised to consult certified financial experts before making any investment decisions.
