Indian Stock Market Surges on Crude Oil Price Drop
The Indian stock market continued its winning streak for the fourth day in a row as crude oil prices plummeted sharply. The Sensex jumped 544.39 points, or 0.70 per cent, to settle at 78,639.03, while the Nifty surged 390.70 points, or 1.60 per cent, to end at 24,774.30.
Foreign fund inflows also contributed to the market's optimism, with foreign investors buying equities worth Rs 277.48 crore on Friday. This comes after four straight months of selling, which turned into net buying in July, with a total inflow of Rs 20,200 crore.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments Ltd, attributed the market's gain to the decline in crude oil prices, driven by expectations of renewed dialogue between the US and Iran. This eased concerns over inflation and corporate earnings, while a rebound in FII inflows and a strengthening rupee further supported market sentiment.
However, Nair also noted that elevated US bond yields remain a key risk to the sustainability of foreign flows into emerging markets.
