Indian Stock Markets Plummet as US-Iran Tensions Escalate
Indian stock markets plummeted on Wednesday, September 2, as tensions between the US and Iran escalated. The Sensex dropped nearly 700 points in opening minutes, while Nifty plunged around 200 points.
This decline follows a global trend of weakening markets due to rising geopolitical tensions. Brent crude oil prices surged past $95 per barrel, pushing concerns over inflation and India's import bill.
Higher crude oil prices can increase India's reliance on imported oil, putting pressure on the rupee and economy. Rising bond yields in the US are also adding to global market uncertainty, contributing to the selling pressure in Indian markets.
Rising food prices, which rose to 5.52% in July, are another concern for investors, as it puts pressure on household budgets and consumer spending. Asian markets, including Japan's Nikkei 225 and South Korea's KOSPI, also fell sharply due to the US-Iran conflict.
