India's August LNG Imports Rise Slightly, Consumption Falls

India's natural gas imports in August showed a slight increase compared to the same period last year, according to a report from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell. The country imported 2.915 billion standard cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in August, up from 2.912 billion cubic meters a year ago.

The import bill for LNG remained unchanged at $1.2 billion compared to last year. However, India's total LNG consumption fell by 2.4% to 5.71 billion cubic meters from 5.85 billion cubic meters in August last year.

In the first five months of the fiscal year (April to March), India imported 14.78 billion standard cubic meters of LNG, a 31% increase over the same period last year. The import bill for this period rose to $6.8 billion from $5.6 billion a year ago.
