India's Domestic PNG Prices Remain Stable Amid Global Volatility
The Indian government has managed to shield domestic consumers from a sharp rise in global natural gas prices despite heightened tensions in the Middle East. The price of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) supplied for domestic use remains fixed at $7 per MMBtu for the financial year 2026-27, as reported by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in Parliament.
To mitigate the impact of international price volatility on households, the government has allocated additional domestic gas to meet rising demand for PNG in cities. This allocation was increased to 105% of actual consumption recorded during the previous quarter, ensuring adequate availability while reducing pressure on retail prices.
The government's special arrangements can be withdrawn once the gas supply situation returns to normal. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas emphasized that domestic PNG has been included among the priority sectors for natural gas allocation under the Natural Gas (Allocation) Order, 2016.
