India's First LNG-Powered Train Rolled Out Amid ₹1,472 Crore Development Projects

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated development projects valued at Rs 1,472 crore and flagged off India's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered train from Sabarmati Railway Station in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The event also marked the opening of the WAG-12 Maintenance Shed, constructed at a cost of Rs 700 crore.

Shah highlighted that multiple railway initiatives had commenced within the Sabarmati division, focusing on environmental sustainability, passenger amenities, and rail safety. He mentioned the successful trial of India's first double-stack long-haul container train connecting Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Mumbai to Vadodara, which could nearly double freight-carrying capacity despite existing track limitations.

The home minister attributed key projects such as Dedicated Freight Corridors and premium railway stations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. He stated that 97 per cent of bio-toilets and 87 per cent of LHB coaches are produced domestically under Modi's government, with railway electrification increasing from 30 per cent to near completion during this period.
