India's June 30 Deadline for LPG-PNG Switch Sparks Concern Among Consumers

The Indian government has set a June 30 deadline for citizens to switch to piped natural gas (PNG) connections from LPG cylinders. This move aims to promote PNG as a cleaner, safer, and greener cooking fuel alternative. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, about 1 lakh families have already given up their LPG connections and opted for PNG connections since March.

Under the new rules, if an individual has a PNG connection, they must surrender their LPG connections. The government also prohibits holding both LPG and PNG connections simultaneously. Those who fail to switch to PNG by June 30 may face suspension of their LPG connections.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has issued guidelines for citizens to apply for PNG connections in areas where the service is available. Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has also urged citizens to start applying for PNG connections before the deadline.
