India's LNG Imports Soar to Six-Year High Amid War-Driven Disruptions

India's imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) surged to a six-year high in August, defying higher prices. Ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg shows that deliveries to India climbed 40% year-on-year to 2.6 million tons, the highest monthly level since October 2020.

The increase comes as fertilizer and fuel distributors sought to replace shipments disrupted by the Iran war. This indicates a strong demand for LNG in the country despite higher spot prices.

The data suggests that India's reliance on imported gas is continuing, with imports accounting for a significant portion of the country's energy needs.
