India's New Gas Rules: Switch to Piped Gas or Face Cuts

The Indian government is planning significant changes to LPG gas cylinder bookings starting June 1, 2026. The revisions aim to reduce dependency on LPG and curb black marketing and hoarding.

One of the key changes is that households with PNG infrastructure in their locality will be required to switch to piped gas instead of gas cylinders. This rule was made mandatory by the government in March, with a three-month deadline expected to end in June 2026.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has directed city-gas distribution entities to expedite D-PNG connections as part of the National PNG Drive 2.0, which was extended till June 30, 2026. The drive aims to make piped gas usage simpler, safer, and seamless.
