India's gold demand during Q2 2026 declined by 6% year-on-year to 131.4 tonnes, while the value of purchases reached a record high of Rs 1,98,100 crore due to elevated prices.

The World Gold Council (WGC) attributes this trend to consumers shifting towards lighter-weight jewelry and lower-carat products to manage affordability.

Jewelry demand fell by 15% to 75.1 tonnes during the quarter, but bar and coin demand increased by 9% to 50.3 tonnes.
