Indonesia Energy Starts K-29 Oil Output Prepares for WK-5 Drilling
Indonesia Energy Corporation (IEC) has started crude oil production at its newly drilled K-29 well in the Kruh Block of Sumatra. The company plans to begin drilling the deeper WK-5 well by the end of October 2026. According to IEC, preparations for WK-5 are underway, using the same rig that drilled K-29. The planned depth for WK-5 is approximately 5,200 feet, significantly deeper than K-29's 3,400 feet.
WK-5 aims to explore additional formations identified through IEC's 3D seismic survey, including a potential natural gas-bearing zone. Both wells are located within IEC's 63,000-acre Kruh Block. Frank Ingriselli, IEC's president, expressed satisfaction with the progress at Kruh and anticipates the drilling of WK-5 as part of the company's efforts to boost output and maximize the value of its Indonesian assets.
For K-29, IEC is preparing a hydraulic fracturing job to enhance production. Currently, the well is flowing through a jack pump and is in the dewatering phase, with its output consisting of about 60% oil and 40% water. The crude from K-29 is stored, separated, and then blended with output from other IEC wells before being sold to Pertamina, Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas firm. IEC did not disclose the current production figure for K-29 but noted that WK-5 is intended to assess further exploration prospects flagged by its seismic survey.
