Inpex Boosts Energy Security with Ichthys LNG Stake Acquisition
In a strategic move to boost energy security in Japan and the Asia-Pacific, Inpex has acquired a 0.735% stake in its Ichthys liquefied natural gas project from JERA.
The acquisition increases Inpex's interest in the project to 68.555%, blocking a prior agreement with MidOcean Energy that would have seen JERA sell its stake to the LNG company.
Ichthys began production in 2018 and has an annual LNG production capacity of approximately 9.3 million metric tons, supplying around 70% of its LNG to Japanese buyers.
