INPEX Gains Majority Stake in Ichthys LNG Project with JERA Sale
Japanese energy company JERA has agreed to sell its 0.735% stake in the Ichthys LNG project to INPEX, allowing the latter to raise its share from 67.820% to 68.555%. The sale is conditional on Australian regulatory approvals and satisfaction of other contractual conditions.
The agreement does not affect JERA's existing contracts for liquefied natural gas (LNG) liftings from the project. INPEX exercised a pre-emption right under the agreements between partners, allowing it to take over the stake put up for sale by JERA.
JERA had initially agreed to sell its interests in Ichthys and the Gorgon project to MidOcean Energy in December 2025. The company informed other project partners of this decision, with MidOcean flagging a possible later transfer of the Ichthys interest to an existing partner.
