Iowa Farmers Demand Relief from Skyrocketing Diesel Prices

Iowa farmers are facing high diesel fuel costs as they begin harvesting their crops. The Iowa Corn Growers Association is asking lawmakers for relief, citing that average diesel prices in Iowa have risen to $6.27 per gallon, nearly twice as expensive as this time last year.

The trade disruptions caused by the war in Iran are being blamed for the increase in fuel prices. Senator Chuck Grassley and Representative Ashley Hinson are calling for an embargo on the export of US diesel to provide relief for farmers.

Senator Grassley said he hopes the White House doesn't listen to 'Big Oil' claims that a diesel export ban wouldn't work, stating that they should cut prices for US diesel and get the money from other countries. Representative Hinson also supported an export ban, saying Iowans are being squeezed and shouldn't have to foot the bill at the pump or checkout line for the war in Iran.
