Iowa Farmers Gain Diesel Price Relief for Harvest Season
Farmers in Iowa are celebrating a recent announcement that provides diesel price relief as the harvest season begins. The new measure allows them to use non-taxed, off-road diesel for on-road harvest activities, offering temporary federal and state fuel tax relief. This comes as a significant boost for farmers dealing with high diesel prices during the harvest period.
Steve Kuiper, President of the Iowa Corn Growers Association, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that diesel fuel is a major expense that impacts farmers' profitability, especially in a tight-margin economy. The expanded use of off-road diesel is expected to provide much-needed financial relief during this critical time.
In addition to the diesel allowance, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced an $180 million Seed Sovereignty Initiative to strengthen U.S. agricultural security. The announcement was made at an Iowa corn farm, emphasizing the importance of seed technology and research in modern agriculture. Kuiper highlighted that investing in research ensures Iowa farmers remain sustainable and competitive in the market.
