Iowa Farmers Seek Federal Help as Diesel Prices Soar Above $6
The Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) has sent a letter to members of the Iowa Congressional Delegation requesting immediate action to reduce diesel fuel prices. Farmers in Iowa are facing significant concerns about affordability as national on-highway diesel prices have risen nearly 59% compared to last year, reaching $6 per gallon. ICGA President Steve Kuiper stated that this is exacerbating economic and mental stress for farmers who rely on diesel fuel during the harvest season.
The association urged Congress and the federal government to explore legislative amendments or administrative waivers to allow on-road trucks to use tax-exempt dyed diesel without penalty through the duration of harvest. This move aims to offer swift financial relief to farmers struggling with the high cost of diesel fuel.
