Iowa Fuel Prices Edge Closer to Four-Dollar Mark

Iowa's fuel prices have reached new highs this week, according to the latest report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of August 5th, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the state rose four cents to $3.79, marking an 82-cent increase compared to the same time last year. The national average, however, was down one cent to $4.08 per gallon.

Locally, diesel prices are also on the rise, with the statewide average up 14 cents to $5.11 per gallon, a significant jump from $3.58 per gallon in August 2025. Interestingly, local prices remain 25 cents below the national average of $5.36 per gallon.

Looking at the Des Moines terminal, we see that E10 was priced at $2.75, Unleaded 87 at $3.27, ULSD#2 at $3.84, and ULSD#1 at $4.08 per gallon. Meanwhile, natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site dropped four cents to $2.69 per MMBtu.
