Iowa Gas Prices Soar 24.8 Cents Per Gallon Over Past Week
Gas prices in Iowa have surged significantly over the past week, according to data from GasBuddy. The average price of gasoline in the state has increased by 24.8 cents per gallon, reaching $4.38/g as of yesterday. This marks a 25.9 cent increase compared to last month and a $1.44/g jump compared to the same time last year.
GasBuddy's analysis also revealed that neighboring areas are experiencing similar price hikes, with the Quad Cities area seeing an average price of $4.49/g, up from $4.22/g last week. Des Moines and Omaha are also feeling the pinch, with prices rising to $4.32/g and $4.30/g respectively.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, attributed the price increases to refinery issues in the Great Lakes region and continued strikes on Russian oil refineries, which have tightened global diesel supply. 'Any broader directional change will depend heavily on overseas developments,' he warned, citing new Houthi attacks and fresh U.S.-Iran escalations as factors contributing to the uncertainty.
Historically, Iowa's gas prices have ranged from $2.94/g in 2021 to a high of $3.75/g in 2023. The national average has also seen significant fluctuations over the past five years, with prices ranging from $3.14/g in 2025 to $4.44/g as of yesterday.
