Iowa Gas Prices Surge Above Four Dollars

Iowa's gas prices have risen above the four-dollar mark for regular unleaded gasoline in the latest report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of September 9, 2026, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $4.06, up 17 cents from last week and $1.22 higher than a year ago. The national average for gasoline on Wednesday was also up, increasing by 10 cents to $4.22 per gallon. Iowa diesel prices rose significantly, with an average increase of 27 cents per gallon to $5.71, compared to $3.56 per gallon in early September 2025.

The state's prices are holding below the national averages for both gasoline and diesel, with Iowa gas prices being 23 cents lower than the $4.94 per gallon national average and diesel prices being 23 cents lower than the $5.94 per gallon national average. At the Des Moines Terminal, various fuel types were priced at: E10 was $3.17, Unleaded 87 was $3.92, ULSD#2 was $4.70, ULSD#1 was $4.95, and E70 was $2.58.

Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site decreased by 11 cents to $2.85 per MMBtu.
