Iowa Harvest Season Delayed Amidst Excessive Rain and Soaring Fuel Costs

Iowa's fall harvest season has been delayed due to excessive rain in some parts of the state, adding to the difficulties faced by farmers this year. The wet weather is causing concern among farmers, who are already dealing with soaring fuel costs and soggy fields.

Ryan Marquardt from the Iowa Farmers Union expressed his worry about the current situation: 'We got into this current wet spell, I'm getting a little nervous, hopefully it finally lets up a little bit.'

Last year around this time, the harvest was already underway. However, this year's rainy conditions are keeping many farmers out of their fields and in some cases, ruining crops.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture reported that farmers harvested only 4% of the corn crop last week, which is 3% less than the same period last year. The soybean harvest is also behind, at about 2 percentage points.
