iPhone Duo vs Gold: Which One Really Makes You Richer?
The release of Apple's iPhone Duo has highlighted a common psychological trap: confusing wealth with status. The top-tier iPhone comes with a hefty price tag of $3,199 (₹4,49,900 in India), but its value depreciates rapidly over time.
A study reveals that the original iPhone from 2007 had an eight GB storage capacity and cost around $599 (₹25,000). In contrast, the iPhone Duo has a whopping 2 TB of storage and costs nearly six times more than its predecessor. However, this increased price does not translate to equivalent value retention.
Gold, on the other hand, has quietly preserved purchasing power over the years. Since 2007, gold prices have surged by ~6.7x in dollar terms, outperforming Apple's top-tier phone price increases (~5.3x). In India, gold's growth of ~16.6x nearly kept pace with the iPhone's local price leap.
The choice between investing in an iPhone or gold depends on one's priorities: temporary lifestyle status and cutting-edge hardware versus long-term purchasing power.
