Iran Allegedly Strikes Oil Tanker Transiting Strait of Hormuz Amid Escalating Tensions
A Togo-flagged oil tanker, the Trend, was allegedly struck by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps while attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The incident occurred despite a warning from the Guard's navy that unauthorized passage would result in 'destruction' of offending vessels.
The Strait of Hormuz has been under Tehran's control since February 28, when the US and Israel launched their war effort. The US military has been guiding some commercial ships through the strait off Oman due to ongoing Iranian attacks.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung stated that his government is considering expanding the operations of its naval unit in the Gulf of Aden off Yemen and Somalia to protect South Korea's vessels and oil shipping routes. However, he emphasized that this would not involve direct involvement in the US-Iran conflict.
