Iranian President Ebrahim Pezeshkian met with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Shanghai Plus summits in Bishkek, where they discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation. The two presidents agreed to build a joint refinery in Kyrgyzstan, with Iran supplying the crude oil needed for the project.

Pezeshkian described the proposal as a good opportunity to raise the level of economic and energy cooperation between Tehran and Bishkek. He also highlighted the capabilities of Iranian technical and engineering companies, which he said are already operating in Kyrgyzstan.

Japarov thanked Pezeshkian for his positive approach to expanding bilateral cooperation, expressing appreciation for his 'warm and constructive remarks' on relations between the two countries.
