Iran and Oman Negotiate Permanent Shipping Corridor for Strait of Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz is at the center of ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman. The two countries aim to establish a permanent shipping corridor and agree on the future administration of the strait, which accounts for about one-fifth of the world's traded oil.
This comes after the US and Israel attacked Iran in February, severely disrupting oil shipments through the strait.
US President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb Oman if it gets in the way of American efforts to reopen the strait. However, it remains unclear whether the US will accept the emerging deal between Iran and Oman.
