Iran and Oman Negotiations Spark Oil Price Decline
Global oil prices have begun to decline as reports emerge of negotiations between Iran and Oman on a potential agreement to regulate traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. This key global oil transportation route is crucial for energy supplies in Persian Gulf countries, with a significant portion passing through it.
Brent crude oil futures fell by $1.42 (1.56%) to reach $89.32 a barrel at 13:30 GMT. Earlier in the day, prices had reached $93.31 a barrel during trading. Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil dropped by $1.14 (1.35%) to $83.32 a barrel after rising to around $85.94.
The Strait of Hormuz's importance in global energy trade cannot be overstated, making the developments between Iran and Oman significant news for markets.
