Iran Blacklists 45 Tankers Over Strait of Hormuz Disputes
Iran has taken a significant step in escalating tensions over the Strait of Hormuz by blacklisting 45 tankers that have broken its rules for crossing the waterway. According to an X post from the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, these vessels could face fines, detention, and confiscation of their cargoes.
The restricted list includes various types of ships, including very large crude carriers, liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas tankers, and clean product vessels. Some of the named ships are owned by prominent companies such as ADNOC Logistics and Shipping (ADNOC L&S), Navig8 Tankers, and Bahri.
The move comes amidst heightened tensions between Iran and the US, with the latter threatening 'the toughest sanctions in history'. Iran has warned that its response to any new US threats would be 'devastating', and the blacklisting of these tankers is seen as a clear demonstration of this stance.
