Iran Blames 'Trillion-Dollar' Pollution on Gulf Oil Spills
Iran's Qeshm Island is facing environmental fallout from an oil spill that spread along its shores earlier this week. According to Iran's Foreign Ministry, preliminary evidence points to a foreign bulk carrier as the source of the pollution.
The slick originated approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Khasab in Oman's Musandam Governorate and drifted across the Strait of Hormuz to reach Iran.
TankerTrackers, a maritime monitoring service, attributes the attack that triggered the fire on the Minoan Pioneer to Iranian forces, citing historical patterns in the area. However, Iran has neither confirmed nor denied involvement.
The incident is only one example of decades of pollution, with Iran's Foreign Ministry claiming it caused 'trillion-dollar damage' to its coastal areas.
