Iran Claims It Struck Togo-Flagged Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed it struck and detained a Togo-flagged oil tanker, Trend, while it attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC alleged that the vessel was attempting an 'illegal passage' and had been influenced by the US military before trying to cross the strait.
A fire reportedly broke out on board the tanker after it was struck, according to Iranian state media. The Revolutionary Guards did not provide details about the tanker's cargo or the extent of the damage.
The Strait of Hormuz has seen a significant decrease in commercial shipping traffic due to the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict, with only four vessels crossing the waterway on Thursday, compared to a 10-day average of 16.
