Iran Claims to Strike Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz Amid Tensions

The Iranian government has claimed to have struck an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz after it attempted to transit through without authorization, according to a report by the state broadcaster. The tanker, identified as the Togo-flagged oil tanker Trend, was reportedly targeted on Thursday night.

The Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that vessels attempting to pass through the strait without permission would face 'destruction'. This comes amid heightened tensions in the region following the US and Israel's launch of attacks in February. Tehran has since asserted control over much of the waterway.

Separately, another tanker was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting out of the strait on Wednesday, with the crew reported safe. The UK Maritime Trade Operations alerted about this incident but did not provide further details.
