Iran Continues Aggressive Tactics in Strait of Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz remains a contentious waterway as Iran continues to assert its control over it. On September 21, another tanker was hit in the strait, resulting in injuries to two seafarers and further heightening tensions in the region.
The LR Stephanie, a crude oil tanker registered in the Isle of Man, was struck while transiting through the strait. The incident is at least the fourth reported strike on tankers since September 17.
The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) noted that commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has remained at reduced levels, with independent tracking data indicating only single-digit numbers of transits per day. However, US Naval Cooperation and Guidance for Shipping (NCAGS) indicates higher flows are being facilitated.
