Iran Demands Fuel Price Surge as Houthi Drone Strike Hits Aramco Refinery
Crude oil prices have increased this week due to Iran's announcement of six conditions for a peace agreement with the United States and reports of a Houthi drone strike on an Aramco refinery in Jazan. The price of Brent crude currently stands at $84.24 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate is trading at $78.70 per barrel.
Iran stated that it would only reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the United States met its demands, which include the withdrawal of U.S. forces from around Iran and compensation for war damages. The source notes that accepting these demands would damage the reputation of the current President of the United States, making such acceptance unlikely.
The Houthi claims to have struck Aramco's 400,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Jazan with a drone, according to Yahya Saree, the Houthi military spokesman. This attack has further heightened tensions in the region and is expected to keep energy prices elevated.
