Iran Discovers Giant Gas Field in Fars Province
A major gas field has been discovered in southern Iran's Fars province. Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad announced on August 23 that the new mine contains more than 212 billion cubic meters of gas, with an estimated recovery rate of 73-75%. This means that around 161 billion cubic meters of gas can be exploited from this field.
The newly discovered mine also holds condensate gas, a liquid hydrocarbon often recovered alongside natural gas during extraction. Iranian officials are taking emergency measures to bring the gas field into development and exploitation as soon as possible.
The discovery comes at a time when the Middle East conflict is putting pressure on energy markets. Disruptions in energy transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for oil and natural gas exports, have caused fluctuations in oil prices.
