Iran Discovers Giant Gas Field with Billions Worth of Resources
A major gas field has been discovered in Iran's Fars Province, according to Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad. Speaking on national television, he announced that the new field contains over 7.5 trillion cubic feet of gas.
This is equivalent to about 15 years of production from phase one of the South Pars gas field, a significant find in a country heavily reliant on domestic investment and expertise to develop its oil and gas fields since 2018.
The newly discovered field, known as Takht-e, contains sweet natural gas with relatively low levels of sulfur compounds, making it more cost-effective to produce. It also includes substantial quantities of gas condensate, a valuable hydrocarbon liquid produced alongside natural gas.
Paknejad estimated the value of these resources at tens of billions of dollars, stating that they would create 'a new source of wealth for the country.'
