Iran Discovers Vast Natural Gas Reserves in Fars Province
Iran has announced the discovery of over 200 billion cubic metres of natural gas in the southern Fars province. The Iranian Petroleum Minister, Mohsen Paknejad, revealed that more than 160 billion cubic metres of this 'sweet' natural gas can be extracted.
The newly discovered field is believed to contain very little hydrogen sulphide, a toxic gas, making its development and operation less costly compared to producing gas with higher levels of the compound. This could provide Iran with an additional source of natural gas, although it will take years for production to commence.
