Iran Envoy Blasts US for Environmental Devastation

The ongoing war between the US and Iran has led to massive environmental devastation in the region. According to Esmaeil Baqaei, a spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, oil contamination in the Persian Gulf has begun washing up on Iranian shores.

This is just one visible example of the extensive pollution caused by the war, which includes both overt and concealed damage to the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. Baqaei questioned who bears responsibility for compensating these damages, suggesting that it may be the nations consuming inexpensive energy from the region or the aggressors themselves.

A report by the Conflict and Environment Observatory found over 300 incidents of potential environmental harm across 12 countries in the region, threatening not only today's war victims but also future generations. The ongoing satellite blackout has hindered tracking of this damage, with commercial satellite companies restricting or delaying publication of their Middle East data at the behest of the US government.
