Iran Offers 7-Day Plan to Reopen Strait of Hormuz Amid Trump's 'Trump Strait' Label
US President Donald Trump posted an image to his social media platform labeling the Strait of Hormuz as the 'Trump Strait', amidst tensions between Washington and Tehran. The move comes after Iran proposed a seven-day plan to reopen the strategic waterway, which has been blocked due to US sanctions.
The proposal, conveyed through Qatar, calls for the US to lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports, waive sanctions on Iranian oil sales, release frozen assets worth around $12 billion, and observe a regional ceasefire. In return, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear talks with the US.
The proposal is based on a memorandum of understanding reached between the two countries in June, which collapsed after both sides accused each other of violating its terms. The new plan compresses the timeline, aiming to move from a ceasefire to the reopening of the waterway within a week.
