Iran Offers 7-Day Ultimatum for Strait Reopening and Nuclear Talks
Iran has offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear talks with the US within seven days, provided Washington lifts its naval blockade of Iranian ports, waives sanctions on Iranian oil sales, and agrees to a ceasefire covering Lebanon.
The proposal, outlined by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, would also revive stalled negotiations over Tehran's nuclear programme.
Araghchi said the seven-day timeline will start as soon as the US accepts this plan. He stated that initial steps would take four to five days, with the Strait of Hormuz reopening on the sixth day, followed by talks with the US on a final nuclear agreement beginning on the seventh day.
The strait has become a key point of leverage for Iran, through which around a fifth of the world's traded oil and gas passed before the war.
