Iran Offers Deal to End Strait of Hormuz Fighting Before US Midterms
Iran's president and foreign minister visited New York for the U.N. gathering of world leaders, where they proposed a deal to end the fighting in the Strait of Hormuz within seven days.
The conditions for the deal are not new: the US would need to lift its military blockade of Iranian ports, release frozen Iranian assets, and waive sanctions on oil sales.
What's different this time is the speedier timeline, which may be an attempt by Iran to influence the US midterm elections in November.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the latest talks with Iran were 'good' and that the US was open to more negotiations.
However, Trump used his U.N. speech to threaten to 'annihilate' the Islamic Republic, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed to fight 'until our last breath.'
