Iran Offers Seven-Day Deal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz
Iran's foreign minister has proposed a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in seven days if the US meets certain conditions. The proposal includes lifting its naval blockade of Iranian ports, waiving sanctions on Iranian oil sales, and observing a ceasefire that would include Lebanon.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical trade route through which about 20% of the world's traded oil and gas passes. Iran has been disrupting the strait as leverage in its negotiations with the US.
Araghchi said initial steps to reopen the strait would take around four to five days, and it would be open on the sixth day. Talks between the two countries would begin on the seventh day to finalize a deal on their nuclear program.
