Iran Offers to Mediate Between Houthis and Saudi Arabia
Iran has expressed its readiness to facilitate dialogue between Yemen’s Houthi group and Saudi Arabia in an effort to de-escalate the ongoing conflict. At a press conference on Sunday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the solution to the Yemen crisis does not lie in economic blockades or airstrikes. Instead, he emphasized the need for both sides to engage in dialogue based on a previously agreed peace roadmap.
Baghaei noted that Iran is prepared to offer all possible assistance to advance this process. The latest round of conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia began in mid-July, following Saudi airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport. The Houthis retaliated with missile attacks on southern Saudi Arabia, leading to a series of reciprocal strikes.
On Saturday, the Houthi group claimed responsibility for attacking an oil facility in Riyadh using ballistic missiles and drones. However, the Saudi-led coalition dismissed this claim as misleading, asserting that it was intended to divert attention from the Houthis' own losses.
