Iran Oil Minister Resigns Amid US Sanctions Pressure
Iran’s Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad has resigned, citing personal reasons. His departure comes as the country struggles to maintain its oil industry under increasing pressure from US sanctions. President Masoud Pezeshkian accepted Paknejad’s resignation on Sunday, despite previously rejecting several requests from the minister to step down, according to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency.
Paknejad’s resignation marks a significant shift in Iran’s leadership amid a tightening US blockade. Hamid Bovard, the Deputy Oil Minister and Managing Director of the National Iranian Oil Company, has been appointed as the interim minister. Bovard brings extensive experience, having previously led several NIOC subsidiaries focused on oil and gas production and exploration.
The new interim minister faces immense challenges as Iran’s oil industry grapples with unprecedented pressure. The US sanctions have severely restricted Iran’s oil exports, creating a difficult environment for the country’s energy sector.
