Iran Proposes Reopening Strait of Hormuz in Exchange for Hostility Cessation
The Strait of Hormuz has been at the center of tensions between Iran and the US for nearly seven months, but Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian claims to have a new plan to reopen the strategic waterway.
Pezeshkian told CBS that Tehran's proposal was coordinated with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and has 'the authority to make decisions.'
The six-member team, comprised of representatives from various organizations and bodies including the military, parliament, and government, have been meeting to discuss the plan.
The proposal calls for a cessation of all hostilities in the Middle East, as well as the release of frozen Iranian assets estimated to be worth at least $12 billion, the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil, and an end to the US naval blockade of Iran.
