Iran Refuses to Reopen Strait of Hormuz Until Seven Conditions Are Met
A standoff between Iran and the US over access to the Strait of Hormuz has continued, with Tehran reaffirming its position that conditions must be met before reopening the waterway.
The Strait, a vital conduit for global oil supplies, has been blocked since February when the conflict began. The Iranian government has presented a proposal for reopening it, but this hinges on seven conditions outlined in a June interim agreement with Washington.
Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stated that Iran's position remains firm and that the Strait will not reopen until these conditions are met. He added that 'the period of dragging out the diplomatic process and dictating one-sided demands is over'.
