Iran Relents on Iraqi Oil Tanker Passage Through Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz has seen significant traffic reductions since Iran's effective closure. However, recent developments may signal a shift in this situation. According to reports from IRNA, Iran has granted permission for Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the strait.
This decision follows repeated requests from Baghdad, which was facilitated during Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf's visit to Iraq. The issue of tanker passage through the Strait of Hormuz has been a concern for Iraq, particularly given its reliance on oil exports.
Iraqi President Nizar Amedi stated that Iran had facilitated the passage of vessels carrying Iraqi oil in recent days. Baghdad is working to expand its export routes through Turkey's Ceyhan port and also begin exporting oil through Syria's Baniyas port and Jordan's Aqaba port, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said on Friday.
