Iran Retaliates Against US, Claims to Strike 10 Ships Near Strait of Hormuz
The recent military escalation between Iran and the US has taken another turn as Iran claims to have attacked 10 ships near the strategic Strait of Hormuz in response to the US sinking five Iranian tankers. The US strikes were a retaliation for an attack on a US Navy warship by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which successfully avoided both attacks without any casualties.
The US then struck and destroyed five Iranian oil tankers, including M/T Charminar, M/T Kaviz, M/T Riesco, and M/T Horizon 1 in the Gulf of Oman, and M/T Derya near Kharg Island. The US military released a video showing the tankers on fire before they sank.
The situation has been further complicated by Iran launching ballistic missiles at US forces at the Al-Azraq base in Jordan, with 18 missiles intercepted and two landing harmlessly in unpopulated areas.
